About Friends of the Forest Sedona
The Friends of the Forest, Inc. is dedicated to assisting the U.S. Forest Service
in maintaining, protecting and restoring the scenic beautify and natural and
cultural resources of forest lands for the enjoyment and use of present and
future generations. The objective of the nonprofit, volunteer group is to work
in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service in tasks it does not have the
manpower or the funds to accomplish on its own.
History
The Friends of the Forest is a unique organization that was formed in 1994
as a result of the Sedona Forum entitled Building Partnerships with the
National Forest. We are non-profit and non-political. We are dedicated,
we have fun, and we are goal oriented. We give to the forest and the community
in energetic ways. Simply, we get things done! About one-third of our members
live in the Sedona area and actively give of their time. Others are not able
to personally participate but their membership dues and donations are vital
in helping us to underwrite projects on the Red Rock Ranger District.
Primary Goals
The Friends of the Forest provided the Red Rock Ranger District of the U.S.
Forest Service with over 21,000 hours of volunteer services in 2005. Our
primary goals are:
- Help the Forest Service maintain its trails and cultural resources
- Reduce the environmental damage caused by increaseing human impact
- Assist in education and improve communication with the community
- Enhance the forest experience for visitors and residents alike
Friends of the Forest, Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt charitable organization described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
