Be A Friends of the Forest Ambassador

While some Friends enjoy challenges of building trails or spending hours patrolling the beautiful forest trails, others prefer less vigorous activities. One such opportunity is VIS.
VIS was established to meet the ever growing need for accurate and concise information about recreation on the Coconino National Forest around Sedona. The Friends have worked closely with Forest Service personnel at the Sedona Ranger Station for years.
When the current Forest Service Visitors Center opened in 2007, the Friends were asked to expand their ranks to provide better service to the increased number of visitors arriving each day. Currently, two or three VIS volunteers man the front desk in 4-hour shifts each morning and afternoon, seven days a week, 363 days a year. The Visitor Center only closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas. After training, each volunteer may commit to a regular weekly shift or choose to be on the substitute list, filling in for regular committee members when necessary.
